Kianoush’s Garden is an Iranian feature film written and directed by Reza Keshavarz Haddad and produced by Mohammad Javad Mohedd. Developed with the support of Sooreh Film Club and the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, the film premiered at the 42nd Fajr International Film Festival.
The story follows a group of rural teenagers who live in the midst of wartime conditions. Their routine is disrupted when an Iraqi bomber aircraft crashes near the village and its pilot enters Kianoush’s garden. The adults refuse to believe the teenagers’ account, leading to a chain of events filled with tension and situational humor. Despite the humorous moments, the film contains scenes of fear and conflict, making it unsuitable for children under 12 and a sensitive choice for viewers over 13.
The screenplay is adapted from a novel of the same title by Ali Asghar Ezatipak. The narrative centers on Hamzeh and Abbas, who plan to sneak into Kianoush’s garden on the day of his son’s wedding, coinciding with the crash of the enemy aircraft.
Kianoush’s Garden received the Crystal Simorgh for Best Artistic and Technical Achievement at the Fajr Film Festival and was selected as Best Film at the International Children and Youth Film Festival. Discussions regarding its age rating also became a notable topic during its release period.
