King Kong (1933) Original French Petite Movie Poster by Pierre Pigeot
An incredibly rare first-year-of-release French Petite poster for the landmark American monster film King Kong (1933). Designed by Pierre Pigeot, this charming yet powerful poster is one of the most desirable early international posters created for the film. Despite its modest size, the design delivers remarkable visual impact and remains a favorite among collectors of classic horror and adventure cinema.
Several poster styles were produced for the film’s original theatrical release in France, and this particular design was also featured in the official French pressbook. As originally intended for local cinema promotion, the poster includes a blank date and showtime panel in the upper-left corner, allowing theaters to add screening information. This authentic feature further enhances its historical appeal and originality.
Like all original first-release King Kong posters, this French Petite is exceptionally collectible. Preserved in outstanding unrestored condition, it measures 11¾ × 15½ inches and will be carefully shipped rolled and unframed.
Year: 1933 | Title: King Kong | Country: France | Poster Type: French Petite | Artist: Pierre Pigeot | Size: 11¾ × 15½ inches | Format: Rolled | Condition: Excellent.
Condition Details: An excellent unrestored example showing natural paper aging, primarily around the margins, along with some foxing and very light staining on the right-hand border. There are a few light creases consistent with careful handling over the decades. The colors remain exceptionally rich and vibrant, and the poster displays beautifully, especially considering its age and rarity.
